Singapore Energy Statistics 2016

The Energy Market Authority of Singapore recently launched the Singapore Energy Statistics 2016. This annual statistical publication provides a broad overview of Singapore’s energy landscape in 2015.

A few highlights include:

  • Sustained efforts in reducing emissions
    Singapore’s Grid Emission Factor (GEF), which measures emissions per unit of electricity generated, improved from 0.4332 kg CO2/kWh in 2014 to 0.4313 kg CO2/kWh in 2015.
  • Continued emphasis on cleaner energy sources
  • Natural gas continues to dominate Singapore’s energy mix, accounting for 95.5% of electricity generated in 2015.
  • Imports of natural gas grew by 0.4% to 10.4 Mtoe in 2015, with LNG accounting for 24.9% of these imports.
  • Accelerated adoption of solar in Singapore
  • By the end of the first quarter of 2016, there were a total of 1,102 solar PV installations across Singapore. Close to one-third of them (i.e. 305 installations) were installed in 2015 alone.
  • Grid-connected installed capacity of solar PV systems increased more than two-fold from 25.5 MWac in 2014 to 54.9 MWac by the first quarter of 2016.
