Datin Badriyah Hj. Abd Malek graduated in 1984 from National University of Malaysia with Bachelor of Science (Hons). She was appointed to the Administrative and Diplomatic Service in 1988 and was attached to the Treasury for her initial posting where she served for more than 5 years before furthering her studies in Master of Science at University of Stirling, Scotland in 1993.
Upon returning she was posted to the Ministry of Science, Technology and innovation formerly known as Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in charge on human resource development in Science and technology. In 2000 she was transferred to the Public Service Department and joined the Ministry of Energy, Water and Communications in 2004 where she was posted to the Water Services Division. Madam Badriyah was involved in the Restructuring of Water Service Industry in Malaysia, a major exercise undertaken by MEWC beginning June 2004.
In May 2007, Datin Badriyah assumed the position of the Undersecretary of Sustainable Energy Division, Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water. She spearheaded the drafting of the National Renewable Energy Policy and Action Plan which was approved by the Government in April 2010. This was followed by the completion of the drafting of the Renewable Energy Act 2010 and Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA Malaysia) Act 2010 which was passed by the Parliament on 27th and 28th April 2011.
Datin Badriyah Hj Abdul Malek has been appointed officially as Chief Executive Officer, Sustainable Energy Development Authority Malaysia (SEDA Malaysia) on 1st September 2011. The National Renewable Energy Policy and Action Plan and the RE Act together with the SEDA Act is a major milestone for Malaysia to pursue renewable energy aggressively with the implementation of the Feed in Tariff mechanism
In September 2014, she has been appointed as Director, Energy Section, Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister's Department, Putrajaya. To formulate policies and strategies for the development of sustainable energy in the Outline Perspective Plan, Five Year Development Plan and Mid Term towards ensuring energy supply security, reliability, quality and cost-effective to meet the needs of the economy, especially the industrial sector, transportation, commercial and agricultural. With more than 20 years of experience in various divisions, ministries and in all aspects of government roles and policies.
At present, Datin Badriyah was appointed as Deputy Secretary General (Energy and Green Technology), Ministry of Energy, Water and Green Technology.
