The transition to clean energy in both the transportation and the electricity sectors is an important goal of China's Belt and Road Initiative which has gained momentum in recent years. ASEAN's economic growth is hindered by the scourge of air pollution which claims high toll on human health. As political tension is growing in parts of Asia the deployment of clean energy infrastructure can be a key area of cooperation and tension mitigation among regional powers.
Building on previous years' discussions at SIEW and the results of the Global Forum on Energy Security which was held in Beijing in June in collaboration with SIEW the CASS/IAGS Roundtable One Belt One Road and China's Clean Energy Transitions will provide a venue for those keen to understand how the Belt and Road will affect ASEAN's energy landscape and more specifically how China's initiative can create momentum toward a regional adoption of cleaner energy sources.
