SIEWConnects@Kobe: Unlocking Pathways for Energy Transition in Asia Pacific

DATE 28 March 2025
TIME 15:00 – 19:00 hrs
VENUE Oriental Hotel, Kobe Japan

The International Energy Agency's (IEA) "Southeast Asia Energy Outlook 2024" highlights that the region's energy demand is projected to rise significantly, with electricity demand expected to more than double by 2035. This rapid growth necessitates a swift and strategic transition towards cleaner energy sources. Recognising this imperative, SIEWConnects@Kobe will explore the current challenges of LNG as a transitional fuel and the on-going efforts to accelerate the deployment of hydrogen. The session will also highlight Japan's role in supporting regional energy transitions, and the opportunities for Japanese energy industries in Southeast Asia.

The discussion will cover a range of key topics, including:

  • What are the key financial considerations for investing in LNG infrastructure in Southeast Asia, including the development of import/export terminals, pipelines, and storage facilities?
  • What are the potential applications for hydrogen in Southeast Asia, especially in areas such as transportation, industry, and power generation?
  • How can the public and private sectors collaborate to accelerate the development of hydrogen production, storage, and distribution networks?
  • What role can policy incentives play in stimulating investment in renewable energy technologies?
