With a career spanning close to five decades, Dr Tony Marxsen’s experience and knowledge of the energy industry is almost unparalleled. Tony has extensive strategic and operational expertise in electricity grids and information technology, beginning his career at the State Electricity Commission of Victoria in 1974.

Tony has held the role of Non-Executive Director on the Australian Energy Market Operator’s Board since 2011, and was appointed the Chairman of the Board in November 2015. Tony is also Director of Marxsen Consulting, a firm that led projects of national significance in powerline/ bushfire interaction and powerline bushfire safety. Tony’s work informed the recommendations of the Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission and he played a leading role in shaping the recommendations of Victoria’s Powerline Bushfire Safety Taskforce.

Prior to his current roles, Tony was a Director on the Sustainability Victoria Board from 2008 to 2012, and was a leading consultant at the Nous Group for close to a decade, engaging with governments and major corporations on strategic information and communications technology, and energy related matters.

Tony held the position of Chief Information Officer and Executive General Manager, Operation Efficiency at the Transport Accident Commission, and during this time was made a Computerworld Fellow in 2001. Preceding this position, Tony held a senior role at Orica Limited.  

Tony is a life member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and is a member of the Institution of Engineers Australia, Australian Institute of Company Directors, and Australian Institute of Energy.

Eng. Sabah Mohamed Mashaly graduated in 1986 from Cairo university, faculty of engineering. She started her career in Cairo University and has since moved to the electricity sector. She has handled different jobs in the different areas in the electricity sector (NECC, Project department, etc.).

In 2001, she moved to the minister office and was gradually promoted till she became the first undersecretary for developing performance and political communication. She is a graduate of Harvard Business School and Military Nasser Academy as well and is a member of many International Electrical Associations such as CERED, Sigre, IEC. She also represents North Africa region in the AFSEC organization.

John McCarrick has served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Department of State’s Bureau of Energy Resources since July 2017. In this role, he leads energy policy initiatives and execution of those policies to advance America’s energy security and interests.

He previously advised institutional investors on policy and political risk in energy and related sectors. He practiced corporate law at Hogan & Hartson (now Hogan Lovells) and also worked as in-house counsel at both public and privately held companies. Prior to that, he was an investment banker at Merrill Lynch and also served in the Office of the Independent Counsel under the Honorable Kenneth W. Starr. He is a graduate of Georgetown University and Georgetown University Law Center.

Mr McGregor is Group President & CEO of Sembcorp Industries. He is member of the board’s Executive Committee and Technology Advisory Panel. He also sits on the board of Sembcorp Marine, a listed subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, as a non-executive director.

Mr McGregor brings to Sembcorp a unique and varied background spanning business, operations and investment in the energy and infrastructure sectors across Europe, USA, Asia and Oceania. His rich international experience includes over a decade spent in Singapore serving markets in the region. Previously, he also headed companies in India and Singapore as CEO, including Singapore LNG Corporation and PowerSeraya Group. Most recently, Mr McGregor was the Head of Temasek International’s Energy and Resources Group, Head of Australia and New Zealand and Senior Managing Director of the Enterprise Development Group.

He is a director on the boards of organisations including Certis CISCO Security and National University of Singapore’s Energy Studies Institute, as well as a fellow of the Singapore Institute of Directors.

Mr McGregor holds a BEng (Honours) from the University of Auckland and an MBA in International Finance from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He also completed the Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD, France.

The Honorable Michael W. Michalak, former U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam, will join the Council as Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director effective September 1, 2015. He will oversee the Council’s 6 offices in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) from the Council’s regional headquarters in Singapore.  Ambassador Michalak will lead the Council’s regional advocacy efforts, and engage regularly with key ASEAN policymakers and thought leaders to offer his unique perspective on the key role U.S. businesses can play in ASEAN.

Ambassador Michalak most recently worked as an independent business consultant focused on Asia and particularly Vietnam. He also served as Senior Advisor to the private sector host committee of the U.S. APEC Year (2011).  Ambassador Michalak’s diplomatic career with the State Department spanned more 30 years.  It included: postings to Tokyo, Japan; Sydney, Australia; Islamabad, Pakistan; Beijing, China; as well as Washington, D.C. He served as United States Ambassador to Vietnam from August 2007 to February 2011.  Prior to his position in Vietnam, Ambassador Michalak served as Ambassador and Senior U.S. Official to APEC.   He also served as Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo and the second highest ranking diplomat in Japan.  In addition, he received a group award for valor for his actions in time of crisis when the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad was burned down.  Ambassador Michalak began his career as a research physicist at NASA.

He holds Bachelor of Science in Physics from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan and Master of Science in Applied Physics degrees from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He received a second Master's degree in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  He speaks Japanese, Chinese and French.

Jon Moore is currently CEO of Bloomberg New Energy Finance after leading the firm's operations for six years. He has 20 years' experience of building professional service firms in the financial services industry, advising clients across the US, Europe and Asia. Prior to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, Jon spent a decade at J P Morgan, supporting their Commodities business and Accenture within their Financial Services practice, including two years helping build the Asian Financial Services practice.

Jon was co-founder and CEO of a business consulting firm, m.a.partners, where he spent a decade providing services to the global capital markets community.

Jon has a B Eng (Hons) in Electronic Engineering from Nottingham University and has attended professional development classes at Harvard and NYU.
