As Asia's growing economies and burgeoning middle classes drive demand for more cars, trucks, ships, and planes, uncertainty about the future of oil prices, worries about strategic dependence on unstable oil producing regions and vulnerable sea lines of communications, and air quality concerns create a strong motivation for fuel and vehicle technology optionality. Vehicles purchased today will be on the road for decades and resiliency demands the flexibility to withstand a wide variety of energy market conditions.
This roundtable will assess the state of energy transformation in Asia's transportation sector and address the following questions:
What does the future hold for heavy duty vehicles? What does energy transformation mean in the maritime context? How competitive are new technologies? What progress is being made in different countries in terms of deploying new technologies and what are the types of policies that are most useful in effecting change in the transportation sector?
