Day 2 Recap

With the theme "Unlocking Southeast Asia’s Decarbonisation Potential", this year's Singapore-IEA Ministerial Forum puts the spotlight on how economies across the region can enhance energy security and accelerate clean energy transitions. The IEA also launched its sixth edition of the IEA Southeast Asia Energy Outlook:

  • Southeast Asia's growing urban population growth is fuelling sharp rise in energy demand, especially in the transport and residential sectors
  • Eight out of 10 ASEAN countries are committed to net zero goals, with clean energy projected to meet over one-third of future demand
  • Scaling up clean energy requires substantial investment in infrastructure, including grids and storage

The Singapore-IRENA High-Level Forum brought together government leaders and industry stakeholders to unlock and scale pathways in our road to 2030. IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera highlighted the need to invest in grid infrastructure development and modernise energy systems to deploy renewables at scale.
