The Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) Global Launch 2025 brought together over 600 distinguished guests, including energy leaders and government representatives, on 14 March.
Mr Puah Kok Keong, Chief Executive of the Energy Market Authority of Singapore (EMA), announced this year’s theme “Envisioning Energy Tomorrow, Building Systems Today”. He emphasised the urgent need to strengthen energy security and accelerate the transition to a low carbon future.
Against this backdrop, SIEW 2025 will serve as a premier platform for global collaboration. The event will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, and energy professionals to explore solutions for building a secure, sustainable, and interconnected energy systems.
A call for urgent action
"All of us, in every country, must act now to build secure, sustainable and affordable energy systems to power our future. It is not an easy task," Mr Puah highlighted.
Global energy demand is expected to increase by 11-18 percent by 2050, and Asia will account for 85 percent of that growth. This rapid rise in demand makes regional collaboration and investment in energy infrastructure more critical than ever.
To address these challenges, Mr Puah emphasised that technology will be key. Greater investments in renewables and low carbon technologies are essential, along with stronger regional power interconnectivity to deliver energy where it is needed.
Nuclear energy and carbon capture & storage (CCS) will also need to be considered for hard-to-abate sectors—topics that will take centre stage at SIEW 2025.

The infrastructure challenge: DNV's global energy outlook
One of the most pressing issues highlighted at the SIEW 2025 Global Launch was the growing strain on global energy infrastructure. This challenge stems from rising demand and climate pressures.
DNV Group President & CEO Remi Eriksen shared highlights from the company's latest Energy Transition Outlook through to 2050. He elaborated that while global energy emissions may have peaked in 2024, the current pace of decarbonisation is too slow. Without accelerated action, the world remains on track for a 2.2°C temperature rise by mid-century. This makes adaptation—not just mitigation—a defining challenge in the coming decades.
He added that solar and battery storage are now leading the global clean energy transition. Solar installations have surged in recent years. Yet scaling renewables alone is not enough. A key solution lies in regional energy interconnectivity. Expanding cross-border energy grids, hydrogen trade corridors, and scalable storage solutions could reduce decarbonisation costs by up to US$800 billion, Mr Eriksen said. However, slow deployment of CCS and hydrogen infrastructure continues to challenge industries.
Platform for global energy leadership
SIEW 2025 will serve as a platform for policymakers, industry leaders, and energy professionals to discuss strategies and best practices to build resilient energy systems through key events :
SIEW Summit – A platform for strategic discussions on key energy issues. This year’s discussion will include:
- Envisioning Asia’s Energy Future
- The Next Energy Breakthrough: Scaling Future Energy Technologies
- The Future of Energy: Natural Gas’s Strategic Role in Grid Stability
- Financing Our Energy Future
Singapore-International Energy Agency (IEA) Forum – A high-level dialogue by Singapore and the International Energy Agency (IEA) for global energy leaders to discuss the future of energy markets.
Singapore- International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) High-Level Forum – Co-hosted by Singapore and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the forum discusses energy transition and renewable energy development in Southeast Asia and beyond.
Conference of the Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI) – Hosted by SP Group, this summit will convene electricity sector leaders to explore the future of smart grids, digitalisation, and cross-border energy trade.
New Bioenergy Track – As part of the Asia Clean Energy Summit, this track will highlight biomethane, sustainable aviation fuels, and next-generation biofuels as emerging energy alternatives in the evolving energy landscape.
Delegates can also participate in the popular series – SIEW Energy insights, SIEW Techtable, and SIEW Thinktank Roundtables – during the week-long event.
SIEW 2025 will also feature specialised, in-depth discussions at the Asia Clean Energy Summit, Asia Carbon Summit, and Asian Downstream Summit/Asian Refining Technology Conference/Ammonia & Carbon Capture Asia, and Asia Gas Market Conference. These sessions will ensure a diverse and comprehensive exploration of the energy transition.
Mapping Singapore's future to 2065
As Singapore marks 60 years of independence, SIEW 2025 will feature the SG60@SIEW Energy Showcase that will provide an immersive experience into Singapore’s envisioned energy landscape of 2065. The exhibition will highlight technologies and innovative energy solutions that will shape the nation’s energy ecosystem in the next four decades.
The SIEW Global Launch also marked the launch of the SIEW Academy, a new platform for global energy thought leaders to discuss and chart new pathways for the future energy landscape.

Looking ahead to SIEW 2025
Ms Serene Chua, Assistant Director, External Relations, EMA, reiterated the SIEW 2025 theme and key discussion areas shaping this year's conversations. She emphasised the need for stronger international collaboration in investment, policy alignment, and grid modernisation, while calling on industry players to take on an active role in driving energy innovation.
The momentum from the SIEW Global Launch will extend globally, with SIEWConnects events taking place in Kobe, London, Beijing, and Washington DC over the coming months. These forums will provide a broader international platform to advance discussions on the clean energy transition.

SIEW 2025 will take place from 27 – 31 October at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. Get a preview of the conversations through SIEW Live interviews from the SIEW Global Launch here.
