On 26 January 2015, the International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN), in partnership with the Global Smart Grid Federation (GSGF), launched its second Award of Excellence international competition. This competition aims to showcase leadership and innovation in smart grid projects around the world and improve global awareness of the value that smarter, cleaner electric grids can offer.
The theme for this year’s competition is “Smart Grids for Renewable Energy Integration", highlighting the critical role that smart grids can play in accelerating the deployment and use of clean, renewable energy sources like solar and wind. Power generation from renewable energy sources has the potential to enhance environmental sustainability, mitigate climate change, and increase energy security through diversification of energy sources. Smart grids help renewable generation sources integrate into the current grid structure, enabling grid operations that maximize effective use of all interconnected systems, defer asset additions, increase asset utilization, enhance reliability, improve customer satisfaction, and reduce costs.
The Nominations period is now open for this Award of Excellence.
Applications can be submitted at the ISGAN Award website www.iea-isgan.org/Award2015/Main by 20 March 2015.
