Minister Iswaran sharing his hope for the next chapter of the Singapore Energy Story
By Chia Kang Yang
Lighting up the stage and signboards with shades of blue and red, Minister of Trade and Industry (Industry) S. Iswaran and pioneers of Singapore’s energy evolution officially opened the Singapore Energy Story exhibition on Monday at Singapore International Energy Week 2015.
Iswaran thanked industry players for supporting the exhibition and praised the Public Utilities Board for connecting every Singapore household to electricity with an average interruption time of less than one minute per customer per year.
“Today Singapore has one of the world’s most reliable electricity supplies. We hope that through this exhibition, Singaporeans will learn more about Singapore’s energy development and at the same time contribute to shaping our energy future,” said Iswaran.
Commissioned by the Energy Market Authority as part of Singapore’s 50th anniversary celebrations, the exhibition showcases the country’s energy journey since independence across the key themes of accessibility, reliability, efficiency and future readiness.
By highlighting milestones in the nation’s development, the Singapore Energy Story looks into the past and points to preparations for the future.
Reliable electricity supply was fundamental to Singapore’s economic growth and liberalisation of the electricity and gas sectors increased choices, competition and efficiency. As the exhibition notes, Singapore is working to ensure that energy remains affordable, reliable and sustainable – for now and for future generations.
